Raymond covers almost 30 square miles of Rockingham County. It includes a village along the Lamprey River and Route 27, quiet roads near the edge of Pawtuckaway State Park, and lake neighborhoods on Onway Lake and Governors Lake. Five state routes cross the town (27, 101, 102, 107, and 156), so homes here range from village capes to ranches on wooded lots to newer houses with easy access to Route 101. Dom’s Workshop, Inc is a residential general contractor based in Plaistow, NH. We remodel kitchens and bathrooms, finish basements, and build additions, garages, and new homes for Raymond homeowners, with one point of contact running each job.
What Raymond homes usually need
Village homes near the Common
The village around the Common and the Dudley-Tucker Library (opened in 1908) has older homes with the usual traits: uneven floors, small rooms, limited closets, and wiring and plumbing that have been updated piece by piece. Good remodels in these houses fix the way the rooms flow and update the mechanicals while keeping the parts of the house that are worth saving.
Ranches, capes and raised ranches on wooded lots
Much of Raymond’s housing is on larger lots off the main roads, with a private well and septic. These houses are usually solid and ready for updates: a kitchen with more counter space, a second bath, a finished lower level in a raised ranch, or a garage that’s bigger or attached.
Lake homes
Homes on Onway Lake and Governors Lake are often cottages that have been enlarged over the years. Expect shoreland rules, tight lots, and older add-ons that need to be connected properly.

Finishing a raised-ranch lower level
Raised ranches are common in Raymond. The lower level sits partly above ground, has full-size windows, and is usually unfinished or finished decades ago with paneling. It’s often the most cost-effective way to add space. Here’s what we look at:
- Ceiling height and ductwork. Can the mechanicals stay where they are, or should we reroute them for a cleaner ceiling?
- Moisture and insulation. The walls are concrete with framing above, so the insulation details matter for comfort and to prevent mold.
- A bathroom. If a rough-in exists, adding a bath is easier. If not, we plan how it will drain.
- Egress and bedrooms. Any bedroom needs a proper egress window, and a new bedroom may require a septic review.
Adding a garage or mudroom on a Raymond lot
On a large lot, adding an attached garage with a mudroom between it and the kitchen is one of the most practical upgrades you can make in a New Hampshire winter. You get a place for boots, coats, and groceries, and the car stays out of the snow. What makes it work:
- Placement. The garage has to fit around the well, the septic field, and the setbacks, and the driveway should still make sense.
- The connection. The mudroom roof has to tie into the existing house without creating a valley that collects snow and ice.
- Space above. A bonus room or storage over the garage costs relatively little to include in the original design.
- Fire separation. Code requires a fire-rated separation between an attached garage and the living space, so that’s part of the plan from the beginning.
Permits and planning in Raymond
Raymond has its own building department. Structural, mechanical, and addition work generally needs a permit. We can take care of permits for you. On large rural lots we also check setbacks, wetlands near the Lamprey and Exeter rivers, and where the well and septic are before we place an addition or garage.
